I wanted to tell you that the October issue seemed to be published with me in mind! First, I sent the “More Baby Talk” article to my daughter, who gave birth to my first grandchild, Lincoln, just two weeks ago. I said, “This is what happens when Grandma is a speech-language pathologist!”
Next, I come across an article encouraging me to “Stand Up for Your Dyslexia Expertise.” This has become my passion and I am dedicated to encouraging more SLPs to get involved-they know more than they realize.
If that wasn’t enough, my new grandson-while not a preemie-has had difficulties with feeding (had a tongue-tie lasered two days ago!) and I found the article about feeding problems so well written (“Mom, You Got This”). I loved the “conversations” with anticipatory guidance between SLPs and parents.
Finally, if all that wasn’t enough, “My Son Was a Late Talker,” spoke directly to me, as my second daughter didn’t speak until 2–1/2. I remember calling the Juvenile Aphasia Foundation (this was before Google) for help. She is a beautiful 25-year-old who I now tease about “getting to the point” in conversations.
ASHA, get out of my head!
