The ASHA Leader, August 2018, Vol. 23, 63. doi:10.1044/leader.AN4.23082018.63
The ASHA Board of Directors recently voted to:
  • Accept the report from the Ad Hoc Committee on Health Reform and Alternative Payment Models.

  • Approve ASHA as a founding member of the Global Rehabilitation Alliance (GRA), with an ASHA member to serve on the GRA board.

  • Approve the formation of the Ad Hoc Committee on Graduate Education for Speech-Language Pathologists. The committee will gather data on whether optional, post-entry-level clinical doctoral programs in speech-language pathology should be accredited; what is needed to adequately prepare future SLPs; and which aspects of the current model of entry-level education are serving the profession and public adequately and which aspects are not.

  • Establish a formal affiliation with the Modern Medicaid Alliance.

  • Approve a policy position opposing state Medicaid plan waivers that would restrict access to Medicaid services by:

    • Imposing onerous administrative provisions, such as work and documentation requirements, to demonstrate and maintain eligibility.

    • Allowing Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) to limit enrollment and access to care for individuals with disabilities or those with low incomes.
