The ASHA Board of Directors recently voted to:
  • Approve ASHA’s 2018 annual report of membership in and affiliation with 55 other organizations.

  • Extend the Ad Hoc Committee on Language Proficiency to July 31, 2018, to allow the committee to complete its charge and conduct a peer review of the proposed requirement for language proficiency.

  • Revise the Board of Ethics Issues in Ethics statement, “Ethics in Research and Scholarly Activity, Including Protection of Research Participants” (2018), as revised from the 2014 version, “Ethics in Research and Scholarly Activity.”

  • Extend the Joint Committee on Dysphagia Competencies—comprising ASHA Special Interest Group 13, Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (Dysphagia) and the American Board of Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders—to Dec. 31, 2018, to allow the committee to complete its charge to develop resources around advanced-level dysphagia competencies.

  • Appoint Kenn Apel to serve as ASHA’s liaison to the Interprofessional Education Collaborative’s Program Assessment Advisory Panel for Interprofessional Education and Interprofessional Collaborative Practice for a one-year term.

  • Approve an additional 2.5-day Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology meeting at ASHA’s national office beginning in 2019 in lieu of a one-day meeting at the ASHA Convention.

  • Appoint Diane A. Catalano and Angela Shoup to serve as ASHA’s liaisons to the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery’s clinical practice guideline update committee on sudden hearing loss, effective immediately and ending August 2018.
