The ASHA Board of Directors recently voted to:
  • Delete a requirement from the Committee on Honors Standard Operating Procedures Policy Section that achievements and contributions occurred within the preceding five years.

  • Appoint Melissa Behm and Julie Barkmeier-Kraemer to serve as trustees of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation.

  • Appoint Chasity Shea Moore, Ellen Estomin, Joan Mele-McCarthy and David Alexander to serve on ASHA-PAC.

  • Add the position of vice chair to the Committee on Leadership Cultivation of the Leadership Cultivation and Nominations Board.

  • Accept the 2018 Joint Committee on Infant Hearing (JCIH) Position Statement: Principles and Guidelines for Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Programs.

  • Appoint Ianthe E. Dunn-Murad to the Audiology Advisory Council as the representative from New York.

  • Update the standard operating procedures (SOP) policy section of the Committee on Nominations and Elections of the Leadership Cultivation and Nominations Board to change the composition of the committee and to include election practices.

  • Form the Ad Hoc Committee on Governance Review, charged with conducting a review and evaluation of ASHA’s governance structure and processes, including reviewing and (if necessary) making recommendations about: opportunities and processes for meaningful member input and engagement to inform the Board of Directors and the Advisory Councils; qualifications for board service; board and Advisory Council nominations and elections processes; and voter participation in board and Advisory Council elections.

  • Approve ASHA’s conditional support to the ASHFoundation.

  • Approve ASHA’s 2018–2019 conditional support for supplemental funds to ASHA’s consumer affiliate, the National Association for Hearing and Speech Action.

  • Change the composition of the Journals Board to include four editors-in-chief of Perspectives of the ASHA Special Interest Groups, replacing the three clinical representatives and one public member.

  • Approve funding for the Clinical Specialty Certification Grant Program.
