Warm weather means keeping cool and working on social skills! During this activity, kids worked together using a limited number of kid-size tweezers and eye droppers to melt the ice and “rescue” the frozen animals. The kids had to share the tools because there wasn’t enough of each for everyone to have their own. This activity created a social-learning environment where the kids had to talk to one another, collaborate, work through problems and ask to share. The kids also had fun describing what they were looking at, thinking about and feeling. Plus, it’s the ultimate activity for a really hot day because the ice cools you off as it melts in your hands! You can also use this activity to work on articulation, as well as expressive and receptive language.
About me:
I have been an SLP for four years. I work for a small nonprofit school in Boston, working with children who have emotional and/or behavioral difficulties. I also work for Puzzle Pieces, a private clinical practice in Quincy, Massachusetts, which serves children with a variety of difficulties and their families. My passion is for family-centered, client-driven treatment.
