The ASHA Board of Directors recently voted to:
  • Approve continued affiliation with or membership in 55 organizations.

  • Approve revisions to the Issues in Ethics Statement titled “Client Abandonment.”

  • Approve changes to the Joint Committee on Interprofessional Relations Between ASHA and the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 40: The Society for Clinical Neuropsychology:

    • Expand composition to include APA Division 22 (Rehabilitation Psychology) and ASHA special interest groups.

    • Change the name to Joint Committee on Interprofessional Relations Between the American Psychological Association (APA) and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)

  • Rescind four speech-language pathology policy documents related to service delivery for persons with mental retardation/developmental disabilities: roles and responsibilities (position statement and guidelines), knowledge and skills, and principles (technical report).

  • Revise the policy sections of the standard operating procedures for five committees to add National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) members: Academic Advisory Board, Committee on Leadership Cultivation, Financial Planning Board, Government Relations and Public Policy Board, and Multicultural Issues Board.

  • Approve the revised statement of Diversity and Inclusion at ASHA.

  • Approve the appointment of Heather Hewitt to the Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Council as a member from South Dakota for a term beginning immediately and ending Dec. 31, 2017.
