The ASHA Leader, June 2017, Vol. 22, 61. doi:10.1044/leader.AN6.22062017.61
The ASHA Board of Directors recently voted to:
Approve the formation of an AuD Education Task Force to develop an action plan to execute the recommendations of the AuD Education Summit Report and provide:
  • A mechanism to establish working groups to further pursue strategies to address identified challenges.

  • Frameworks and mechanisms to standardize the AuD externship.

  • Frameworks and mechanisms to evaluate student readiness and outcome measures.

Approve three education position statements to support the 2017 ASHA Public Policy Agenda:
  • Oppose proposals to abolish or significantly diminish the role of the U.S. Department of Education’s oversight of state and local education policies and programs, which ensure high standards and equitable access to educational opportunities for students across the lifespan.

  • Support parents’ right to choose the best education for their children and maintain principles regarding access, funding, accountability and privacy in any education reform legislation.

  • Oppose the Alice Cogswell and Anne Sullivan Macy Act, which places visual and hearing disabilities ahead of others identified in the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act by adding disability-specific mandates and requiring additional resources to accommodate only vision and hearing disabilities.

Information about Board of Directors passed and pending resolutions and motions is posted online. The Board welcomes member input on any of these topics (click on “Provide feedback to the Board of Directors”).
