The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC), a national advocacy organization for team-based care, recently accepted ASHA’s application to become an institutional member.
IPEC was established in 2009 by six organizations committed to advancing interprofessional learning experiences and promoting team-based care. Its 20 health-related association members represent allied health professions, audiology, chiropractic, dentistry, health science libraries, medicine, nursing, nutrition and dietetics, occupational therapy, optometry, osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistance, podiatry, psychology, public health, social work, speech-language pathology, and veterinary.
IPEC’s mission is to ensure that new and current health professionals are proficient in the competencies essential for patient- and client-centered, community- and population-oriented, interprofessional, collaborative practice. Members represent and/or serve academic units at institutions of higher education that grant one or more academic degrees in at least one health profession that provides direct care to clients.
