A new documentary film takes a look at the lives and comedy of a sketch troupe whose four members all have Asperger syndrome.
“Asperger’s Are Us,” which follows a Boston comedy group that shares its name with the movie tile, debuted at the 2016 South by Southwest festivals. Netflix owns the streaming rights.
The members of the troupe had been performing in and around Boston for several years after meeting at a summer camp for people with Asperger syndrome. Filmed in 2013, the documentary looks at their backstories and family relationships, and includes rehearsals for and parts of what was meant to be their last show (the group subsequently reunited). The group is now touring across the country.
