What is implementation science and why is it so important to communication sciences and disorders (CSD)?
The August issue of Access Academics and Research examines these issues. In the featured article, “Leveraging Maximum Impact From Clinical Research: The Art and Science of Implementation,” Natalie Douglas of Central Michigan University and Wenonah Campbell of McMaster University explore the centrality of implementation science to CSD.
The article describes and provides examples of the key differences between implementation science research—which investigates how to integrate research findings and evidence into practice—and intervention research. It also addresses challenges of establishing a research career in implementation science, given the current lack of a clear scholarly career track in this area.
