Peer review for proposed revisions to speech-language pathology certification standards is open through May 15.
The Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC) has proposed three changes to 2014 standards for the certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology.
The proposed revisions would require:
  • SLPs who supervise students to have at least nine months of full-time clinical experience after receiving ASHA certification and to complete two hours of continuing education in supervision every three years.

  • SLPs who mentor clinical fellows to have the equivalent of nine months’ full-time clinical experience after receiving ASHA certification and to take two hours of continuing education in supervision every three years.

  • A minimum of one hour of continuing education in ethics be included in the 30 hours of professional development required for certification maintenance during every three-year maintenance interval.
