The ASHA Leader, April 2016, Vol. 21, 58. doi:10.1044/leader.AN3.21042016.58
As of April 1, certification status will change to “not current” for holders of the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) or Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) who have not met deadlines for reporting continuing education hours or paying annual dues or fees.
This designation helps the public identify certificate-holders who have not complied with certification maintenance requirements.
If your certification is “not current,” you face several restrictions:
  • You cannot use the CCC credential.

  • Your certification is listed publically as “CCC Not Current” to anyone requesting ASHA certification verification.

  • Clinical hours that students earn under your supervision while you are “not current” cannot be used toward ASHA certification.

  • Any portion of a clinical fellowship completed under your supervision while you are “not current” cannot be used toward ASHA certification.

To avoid expiration of certification—and the need to reinstate it—“not current” certificate-holders have until Aug. 31 to meet certification maintenance requirements.
For questions about certification maintenance requirements, call 800-498-2071 or email certificationmaintenance@asha.org.
