Michael Yudin, assistant secretary for special education rehabilitation services in the U.S. Department of Education, will speak at ASHA Connect (formerly the ASHA Schools and Health Care Conference) on July 8 in Minneapolis.
Yudin, who heads the Office of Special Education and Related Services (OSERS), will focus on issues in special education that affect school-based speech-language pathologists, including the joint guidance from the departments of education and justice on meeting the communication needs of students with hearing, vision or speech disabilities.
Yudin joined the Department of Education in 2010. He served as acting assistant secretary and principal deputy assistant secretary of the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education from June 2010 to July 2012, and was acting assistant secretary of OSERS from August 2012 until he was appointed to the post in February 2015.
