ASHA Special Interest Group 8, formerly Public Health Issues Related to Hearing and Balance, has a new name: Audiology and Public Health. The new name encompasses public health issues in all areas of audiology practice, such as tinnitus, that may not be self-evident in the terms “hearing and balance.”
The SIG’s vision is to “facilitate the highest level of knowledge of public health issues related to all audiology services and professional practice in the provision of care to the public,” and its mission is to “address public health issues related to all aspects of audiology through a transdisciplinary interprofessional collaborative practice (IPP) approach.”
Among its goals, the SIG aims to create and maintain greater visibility for audiology and public health and to raise awareness and promote prevention of hearing loss.
