Time magazine named audiology as the “best” profession in its 2015 Answers Issue.
Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on the fastest-growing jobs and data from CareerCast.com on work-related stress, the magazine analyzed 40 occupations for those with “decent” median salaries that also are fastest-growing and least stressful.
The agency projects that audiology, with a stable median salary of $69,720, will experience 34 percent growth in jobs between 2012 and 2022. The expansion is likely due to demographic trends: The over-65 population is expected to double by 2050, and the need for health care professionals who address that community’s ailments will only grow. “And given millennials’ and youngsters’ tendency to blast music into their earbuds, which is partly to blame to the increasing levels of hearing loss among young Americans,” the article states, “the need for folks who can help us hear better will only grow.”
