First, I would like to thank The ASHA Leader and the ASHA Committee on the U.S. Territories for arranging to highlight the professions in the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Nov. 25 issue (“U.S. Virgin Islands: America's Paradise”). I have enjoyed participating on the committee in the hopes of gaining better exposure and resources for the speech-language and hearing professionals practicing in the USVI.
Second, I am writing to ask for help. Since writing that article, I have made the decision to leave St. Croix and return to California for family reasons. When I leave, this beautiful island will once again be without a private speech-language pathologist who is able to bill insurance. I am sending out an SOS to the membership to find an SLP who would be interested in taking over a very lucrative private practice with strong referral sources, including pediatricians and private schools. The hospital is still in need of a part-time SLP. I would be more than happy to assist any interested clinicians through the credentialing and licensure process. Housing and moving information can be found at www.vimovingcenter.com and various other Web sites.
I can be reached at trish@jimtown.org. I will be leaving the island at the end of January or early February 2009. Interested individuals should contact me as soon as possible. Thank you again for your help.
