Since the inception of online professional information, I have found it to be a difficult task to access our journals or special interest division Perspectives. As I am employed and have limited time to spend on the computer, it can be so frustrating to access the documents that I have simply given up! Although we are accessing information through the protected member gateway on the ASHA website, we must go through a completely different Internet gateway to read the Perspectives. In case colleagues are wondering, our journals and Perspectives are online for the convenience of academics and libraries. In this digital age, the trend is for libraries to eliminate printed materials and accept only digital/online information sources. That is the fact; it does not make it right or acceptable. It appears that digital is much cheaper than printed matter. However, our dues are not reduced.
I would like to mention that I also had difficulty in making contact with ASHA through the Internet. May I suggest that simply giving an e-mail address at the end of the “Readers Respond” column would be helpful and more reader-friendly. It took 10 different mouse clicks to find the site to contribute this letter. To be fair, the responses and communications with ASHA personnel were very kind and professional. Thank you.
