I was so glad to read the article “What Is the Value of ASHA?” in the Aug. 11 issue as I generally have no clue where my hundreds of dollars go every year. Current research, rigorous academic standards, and a strong code of ethics are certainly worth all the money I am forced to spend every year. Professional development was funny as we have to pay extra for that. Public outreach is also laughable as most people I come in contact with still think I work only on /s/, /l/, and /r/. Then I read along and notice you're raising my dues. Awesome. I'm thinking that may be for some new furniture in the snazzy new ASHA offices. Strange, that wasn't mentioned in the article. Thank you very much for all of the wonderful information and for letting me know I will be spending more for you to do so little. Buy yourselves lunch on me!
