The Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded 20 contracts to residential facilities in 27 states to provide treatment to veterans with traumatic brain injury.
The contracts are part of the Assisted Living Pilot Program for Veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury. Scheduled to end last year, the program was extended through October 2017 in the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014.
Under the program, veterans meeting the eligibility criteria receive treatment in private-sector residential care facilities that specialize in neurobehavioral rehabilitation. Traumatic brain injury is a prevalent injury affecting veterans of the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
