ASHA members and certificate holders seeking ASHA CEUs at the recent annual meeting of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) were surprised to be charged a $10 “processing fee” as they turned in their CEU forms to AAA staff. The fee was not approved or required by ASHA nor does any part of the fee go to ASHA.
This unexpected surcharge for ASHA CEUs appears to conflict with the cooperative spirit of a agreement signed by both organizations in 1999. That agreement, which ASHA has honored, waived the annual CE provider fees for both organizations and allowed members of either organization to earn CEUs at both organizations’ annual meetings.
ASHA leaders and staff in attendance at the meeting requested that the charge be removed, but were unsuccessful. Members who have called ASHA to express their concern were advised to contact the leadership of AAA.
