ASHA is conducting searches for editorial positions for two scholarly journals: editor of the American Journal of Audiology and speech section editor for the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research (JSLHR). The three-year terms begin Jan. 1, 2012.
ASHA journal editorships are open to all ASHA members. The opportunity to serve as an editor for an ASHA journal represents a chance to influence the content of the journal and help shape the science and the clinical practice of the professions.
Editors nominate the associate editors who will serve with them. They receive a stipend to support their work and also are provided with administrative support from ASHA and the online peer review system that now serves all ASHA journals. Editors are responsible for:
  • Content of the journal (or, in the case of JSLHR, a section of the journal) in terms of relevance, quality, and style.

  • Timely evaluation of submitted and solicited manuscripts and supporting material.

Editors are selected based on their research scholarship and editorial experience. Self-nominations or nominations from others are welcomed. Nominations must include:
  • Curriculum vitae of the nominee.

  • Letter specifying evidence of the nominee’s scholarship and editorial experience.

  • Letter from the nominee indicating willingness to accept the position.

  • Two to four letters of support.

Materials should be sent to Marilyn Newhoff, Publications Board chair, at mnewhoff@mail.sdsu.edu. All nominations must be received on or before May 15, 2011.
For information about administrative and budgetary support, contact Michael Cannon, manager of the scholarly journals program, at mcannon@asha.org.
