If you are a student graduating from a master’s or doctoral program in 2015, ASHA offers three discounts that can save you money as a new professional.
NSSLHA-to-ASHA conversion discount
Master’s and doctoral students whose graduate degrees are conferred in 2015 and who have held national membership in the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association in 2014 and 2015 are eligible for a conversion discount of $225 on their first-year ASHA membership and certification fees. This benefit is exclusive to students who have maintained two or more consecutive years of national membership with NSSLHA. Eligible graduates have until Aug. 31, 2016, to apply for the conversion discount.
‘Gift to the Grad’ program
In addition to the NSSLHA-to-ASHA conversion discount, any graduate can take advantage of the Gift to the Grad program, which gives up to 20 months of ASHA membership—for the price of 12 months—to students who apply for membership and certification from May 1 through Aug. 31. The program rewards students for converting to ASHA membership immediately after graduation and maintains their continuous access to ASHA’s benefits and services during a clinical fellowship or externship.
Graduates who combine the NSSLHA conversion discount with the Gift to the Grad program receive the maximum benefits and resources available.
Recent graduate rate
Graduates who are not eligible for the NSSLHA conversion rate, but who are applying for membership and certification within 12 months of their graduation date, are eligible for a one-time dues reduction.
Smooth transition
In addition, ASHA offers online resources to help in the transition from student to professional:
  • If you are starting a clinical fellowship, review the Clinical Fellowship Requirements for SLPs or search “clinical fellowship” on asha.org.

  • If you are still looking for a clinical fellowship, post your resume at www.asha.org/careers.

  • Learn how to apply for certification in audiology and speech-language pathology.

  • Action Center specialists can help before you complete your application for membership and certification. They can help you determine your eligibility for the conversion discount, verify the certification of a clinical supervisor, or confirm the deadline for submitting applications. Call the Action Center at 800-498-2071, Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. EST.
