The Listen to Your Buds campaign taught children about hearing protection and safe use of personal audio technology, through music during the 2011 ASHA Annual Convention in San Diego.
San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders officially declared November 14–18 “Buds in the Schools Week,” as ASHA’s musical campaign to raise awareness of safe listening practices reached thousands of San Diego area school children and educators.
Among those participating in the campaign were Grammy-nominated clarinet player Oran Etkin and Moona Luna, a quartet that performed snappy Latin tunes with bilingual lyrics urging children to turn down the volume, limit listening time, and take ear breaks.
Also coinciding with the ASHA Annual Convention, USO San Diego welcomed ASHA’s co-title sponsorship of its 20th Annual Holiday Concert at historic Balboa Theater. Courtesy of ASHA and its Listen to Your Buds campaign, performers Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band shared the Buds’ safe listening message with nearly 1,500 attendees from military families.
Footage from both ‘Buds in the Schools Week’ and the USO Annual Holiday Concert can be viewed at the Listen to Your Buds Facebook page.
ASHA and the Buds’ campaign also were present at the 2011? Consumer Electronics Show. The world’s largest consumer technology event, the show is held by Buds’ campaign sponsor the Consumer Electronics Association drew a record number of attendees and marked ASHA’s fifth consecutive year of participation.
