The American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation and the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) are working together on two ongoing initiatives.
Annual Giving
Seventeen NSSLHA chapters contributed to the ASHFoundation’s 2011 annual giving campaign and qualified for a drawing for five complimentary student registrations to the 2011 ASHA Convention. The University of Northern Iowa chapter won the drawing.
“Our chapter members are proud to support the good work of the ASHFoundation—the more NSSLHA chapters give, the more scholarships the ASHFoundation can support for graduate students studying communication sciences and disorders,” Lindsay Woolston, outgoing University of Northern Iowa NSSLHA chapter president, said. “We’re excited that five of our members will attend the Convention with the complimentary student registrations.”
NSSLHA chapters have contributed more than $4,000 so far this year to support scholarships and grants to students and researchers in communication sciences and disorders. For a list of NSSLHA chapter donors, visit the Foundation’s website.
NSSLHA chapters that make donations to the ASHFoundation by Sept. 15 will be listed on the ASHFoundation website and in the Annual Donors booklet distributed at the Convention. For more information and to donate, go to the Foundation’s website.
NSSLHA Scholarship
The ASHFoundation’s NSSLHA Scholarship Fund, established in 2005 through a collaboration with the NSSLHA Executive Council, is growing. The fund is designed to provide an annual scholarship for a student with national-level membership in NSSLHA who is pursuing a degree in communication sciences and disorders.
Through the “NSSLHA Loves” program and other fundraising initiatives, NSSLHA students across the country have been working for the past five years to raise sufficient funds to endow the NSSLHA Scholarship Fund fully. Individuals and five ASHA special interest groups have also contributed to the fund, which now totals $100,000.
Guidelines for the scholarship are in development; the first NSSLHA scholarship will be awarded when funds are sufficient to support an annual award in perpetuity.
