ASHA’s Grant Program for Projects on Multicultural Activities is accepting applications until May 5.
Now in its 20th year, the program supports projects that address the influence of cultural and linguistic diversity on professional service delivery and/or professional preparation. Multiculturalism includes factors such as race, ethnicity, national origin, culture, language, dialect, gender, gender identity, age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion and ability.
Awards average from $7,000 to $10,000, with a maximum award of $15,000. The program is open to clinical and school-based speech, language and hearing programs; university programs; state associations; and allied and related professional organizations. An ASHA member must serve as project director.
There is particular interest in proposals that:
Programs funded in 2014, for example, focused on the effects of nonlinear frequency compression on the performance of people who speak Mandarin Chinese and have hearing loss; an IPE approach to increasing cultural competence with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer parents and their children; and socialization of young children from Mexican families.
Grants may not be used for fundraising, lobbying or awards ceremonies. Click here for additional information, a list of previously funded projects and the link for submitting proposals.
