Two programs at the 2014 ASHA Convention in November will help undergraduate students considering graduate programs in communication sciences and disorders, and graduate students and clinicians considering research doctorates.
Co-sponsored by ASHA and the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, the Graduate School Fair and PhD Center give students and academic faculty the chance to learn about one another in an informal atmosphere.
The Graduate School Fair will take place Friday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Rosen Centre Hotel, the site of all “NSSLHA Experience” activities. Representatives from an anticipated 70 or so undergraduate, master’s, and clinical and research doctoral programs will share information and offer advice to students.
Exhibitor tables will be grouped by geographic region. Students report that speaking with representatives, even from programs they were not considering, was helpful in preparing their program applications. A regularly updated list of academic programs registered for the Graduate School Fair is available at on.asha.org/gsf-exhibitors.
At the PhD Center, which debuted at the 2013 convention, program representatives meet individually with clinicians and students considering research doctoral programs. The center will be located in Hall C of the Orange County Convention Center, adjacent to the NSSLHA and Faculty-Researcher Lounges. Programs exhibit in two-hour blocks on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The full schedule will be posted onsite.
Academic programs interested in exhibiting at either program can register at on.asha.org/gsf-registration. Early-bird registration closes September 12; the final registration deadline is October 17.
