Although “divorce” brings to mind a marital split, audiologist Richard Poage reminds his readers that divorcing oneself from habits—personal and professional—can add up to big positive changes.
“Professionally you have more routines running your life than you can possibly imagine. When you arrive at the office, how you greet a patient, how you finish paperwork, the route you take from desk to exam room, which papers and materials you keep where, and on and on you will find are all full of routines.
“If you can shorten your routine for greeting a patient and taking a history by two minutes, and you do this six times a day, that one simple change will save you about 50 hours a year.”
