At The Stuttering Source blog, SLP Brooke Leiman provides a rundown on preparatory sets, which SLPs can use with clients who are gaining the ability to monitor their own speech.
“Prep sets help a person who stutters make changes to their speech so that their speech can be more forward-moving and so that they can stutter more comfortably,” Leiman writes. “Once a client demonstrates the ability to use cancellations and pullouts, I will introduce the idea of prep sets.” Leiman goes on to provide the “411” on what prep sets are, why they work and what they sound like. You can even listen to an embedded audio sample.
