Because of the large number of participants in the 2013 online audiology conference, ASHA will repeat "Central Auditory Processing Disorders: Clinical Practices and the Science Behind Them" early next year.
The conference will be repeated March 5–17, 2014.
For 12 days in October, more than 700 audiologists and SLPs joined the online conference to learn about CAPD from leading scientists and clinicians, including Gail Chermak, Frank Musiek, Teri James Bellis, Nina Kraus and Linda Thibodeau. (See "Overheard," which spotlights a live chat with Bellis.)
CAPD is often described as greater-than-expected difficulty hearing and understanding speech in the absence of measureable hearing loss. It is often confused with other disorders such as ADHD, language impairment, learning disabilities, social and emotional delays, or cognitive deficits. The conference examined the evidence behind treatment, the implications of comorbidities, and the most effective diagnosis and treatment techniques.
One attendee, in practice for more than 30 years, commented, "This has been one of the best CAPD conferences I have attended." For details about the March conference, visit ASHA's events page.
