ASHA members Suzanne Thompson and Mitzi J. Ritzman were recently appointed to serve as volunteer consultants for the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association's Executive Council.
Thompson, assistant professor in speech communication studies at Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y., is the educational programming consultant. She helps the Executive Council facilitate student-focused convention activities; serves as an information source for pre-professional issues and chapter development; and represents NSSLHA on ASHA's Scientific and Professional Education Board.
Ritzman, an associate professor in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, is the student affairs consultant, providing direction on best practices and emerging issues in the professions and sharing strategies to help NSSLHA improve its benefits, services and special population recruitment.
The Executive Council comprises 11 students who serve as regional councilors and 11 student delegates. Four consultants (ASHA members) serve three-year terms.
