The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association is accepting applications for positions on the 2013–2015 NSSLHA Executive Council. Membership on the council provides students with a national leadership opportunity and the chance to shape the future of the professions.
The council is the governing board of NSSLHA, comprising 10 regional councilors and one member-at-large, 10 delegates and one delegate-at-large, and four ASHA members who serve as consultants. The council meets every spring and fall, with a required orientation session in the summer.
Council members work on committees that establish policy and develop programs to carry out the NSSLHA mission, and have oversight of the association's $800,000 operating budget.
The at-large and five regional councilor positions are open. Any student who lives in, attends or will attend an academic program in the regions listed below may apply:
  • Region 1: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Nova Scotia, Quebec.

  • Region 3: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia.

  • Region 4: Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Ontario.

  • Region 6: Colorado, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota.

  • Region 9: Arizona, Montana, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, Wyoming, Alberta, Puerto Rico, Mexico.

The member-at-large position represents populations of NSSLHA members in the areas of audiology, distance learning, nontraditional students and others.
Regional councilors serve two-year terms. The member-at-large serves a one-year term. Terms begin July 1.
The deadline for applications is March 1.
