The Nominating Committee of the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology seeks nominations for five CFCC vacancies—one ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist and three ASHA-certified audiologists. The three-year term for these positions begins Jan. 1, 2014.
The CFCC, which offers voluntary certification to individuals who hold a graduate degree in audiology or speech-language pathology, administers all facets of the certification program. It defines clinical certification standards, grants certification to those who meet the qualifications, defines and administers reinstatement, and administers certification maintenance.
Applicants for the open CFCC positions must be ASHA members and hold ASHA certification. They should be familiar with the CFCC's roles and understand the responsibilities involved.
CFCC service requires commitment and time, up to two or three hours per week during certain times of the year. Members establish certification standards and implementation language; determine the passing score on the Praxis examinations; review and evaluate selected applications; help develop and approve certification forms; and participate in e-mail discussions of questions from applicants, graduate educational programs and certification staff. The CFCC uses online collaboration to conduct much of its work.
Every year, the CFCC holds three- or four-day meetings in February and July, and a one-day meeting at the annual convention.
The Nominating Committee will prepare a slate from the nominations received, with at least two candidates for each vacancy. The slate will be presented to the ASHA Board of Directors for final approval.
Interested candidates can apply using the nomination form. Submit completed forms by fax (301-296-8569) or mail, dated or postmarked no later than June 1, to Earl "Gip" Seaver, CFCC Nominating Committee Chair, c/o Neil DiSarno, ASHA, 2200 Research Blvd., Rockville, MD 20850-3289.
For more information, contact Neil DiSarno, ASHA chief staff officer for audiology, at ndisarno@asha.org.
